Suicidal civilians

Suicidal civilians

Postby Eberrek » February 16th, 2011, 7:21 pm

Anyone else have a problem with civilians waiting for the helicopter, suddenly deciding to run directly at the zombies? The nearby area around the evac will be secure, but instead of waiting by the helicopter landing area, they will for no apparent reason run past my defenses right into a wall of zombies. Even when there is literally no way they could have gotten by, zero room. They will just run right into the zombies. They usually do it as one large clump, too, so I lose a whole bunch of them at once.

Yea, have had the same trouble, I just reasoned that normal people act irrational sometimes when confronted with a lot of stress... However it can be annoying to see your perfect game go to waist due to 1 single zombie wandering into a clump of people running towards him.

Yeah they do tend to act funny. Sometimes they just sit there when there are numerous open paths to run to with Zed coming from only one path. Another example is say I have 4 paths with Civs in the middle, if 3 of these paths have Zeds coming towards you don't run towards them, go for the path not littered with ravaging zed coming at you.

You're right, the civilian pathfinder seems to having some issues in certain situations. I'll take a look into it.

I just watched two civilians throw themselves into a mob of zombies, but in this case it saved the lives of 47 other people. Zed was headed right for those two stragglers, following them into the narrow street I had my final landing zone in. If those brave souls hadn't turned back the whole thing would have been overrun. As it was Zed wandered off and I had time to land a second time instead.

Completely random chance not intentional, I know, but I thought I'd share. I say a little unpredictable is good.

Also, I love this game Brendon thanks very much.

It's sad:( btw It's weird to see 20+ civilians helplessly munched by 1 zombie. I wish there was a random chance for the mob of civilians to kill 1-4 zombies. Let's say 20 ppl are rushing towards the landing zone, there's one zombie in the way. Surely there's a good chance to kill the zombie? IMHO it will only make it more realistic.

Well said. The pathfinder needs a look but I wouldn't want it to be perfect. Because it certainly 'can' be interpreted as an act of sacrifice.
