Framerate slowdown / mouse stutter

Framerate slowdown / mouse stutter

Postby Brendon » February 11th, 2011, 11:47 am

Atom Zombie Smasher seems to be getting framerate problems on some computers. I'm still trying to figure out the cause of this.

At the moment, there are a few possible solutions to try:
1. Power down your computer, restart it, then re-run Atom Zombie Smasher.
2. If you have a joystick/gamepad, try plugging it in before starting the game.
3. If that does not work, go to your Atom Zombie Smasher's "data" folder (likely c:\program files (x86)\atom zombie smasher\data) and delete the ATIGTKXX.dll file.
4. If that does not work, go to your Atom Zombie Smasher's "data" folder (likely c:\program files (x86)\atom zombie smasher\data) and delete the OPENAL32.dll file.
5. If all that fails, copy & replace these libraries into your "atom zombie smasher\data" folder: http://blendogames.com/dev/sfml17lib.zip

Here's a rundown of all the cases described in this thread:
http://blendogames.com/atomzombiesmasher/support.htm

If that doesn't help, let me know what your system specs are, specifically:
1. What OS you are using.
2. What video card you have.
3. Whether you're using a desktop, laptop, or netbook.

Hey, so a little bit more info on my problems:

I am getting really low frames on mouse-movement.

Windows 7 64-bit
NVIDIA GTX 470 with drivers 266.58 (newest)
Desktop (intel q9550, gigabyte p45 mobo)

I... tried the ATI .dll thing, which didn't help (of course). I restarted which didn't help, and i just downloaded the demo just the other morning, so it is the latest version (after the 8th).

Also getting low frame rates on mouse movement occasionally (after my PC's been running for some time).

Windows 7 64-bit
NVIDIA GTX 460, 266.58 drivers
Desktop (q6600, 4GB RAM)

Restarting fixes the problem, I can close and relaunch AZS a couple of times and the problem doesn't appear but after some unknown time it occurs when I start the program and it's possible to prevent the game from loading by constantly moving the mouse.

Just tried logging out and back in rather than restarting, which also fixed the problem.

I also have a huge framerate drop while moving the mouse. However, I found a strange fix : if i plug in my xbox 360 controller, the problem seems to be solved. Hope this helps.

He's on to something here. I had the frame stuttering when moving mouse problem. I have an Xbox360 USB wireless receiver, which was plugged in, but my 360 wireless controller wasn't on. I started the game, and it was doing the stuttering when moving mouse thing while loading. I turned on my 360 controller (pressed the big green X button to make it connect to the receiver), and as soon as it connected, the mouse move stuttering problem stopped instantly. The game finished loading and ran fine without any stuttering. Restarted the game, still no stuttering. Took the batteries out of the 360 controller (so it disconnected from the wireless receiver), restarted the game, got stuttering. Made the controller reconnect while the game was running, stuttering stopped.

Hejhej Blendo Games,

I really want to try out this game but when I start the game, the mouse is really slow and the intro sequence is too. I dont know why, because the system specs for the game arent so high.

My OS: Windows 7 / 32-Bit
My Hardware: IBM Thinkpad, T42, 1,7 Ghz, Ati Radeon 9600 Mobility

Tried the Ati fix and updated the game to the actual version. My Drivers for the hardware are actual too.

Do anybody have some tips or solutions for this problem?

I have an Wacom Bamboo tablet installed, but shut everything down too... donno :(

OS: Windows Vista (Ultimate) / 32-Bit
Ati Radeon 3400 Mobility (Im fairly certain my drivers are up to date)
Laptop

Hey. I bought this game about a week ago and have been playing it frequently since then. I had no problems up until I installed the latest patch and then whenever I started up the game the frame rate would be ridiculously low, even in the initial loading screen (I cant tell if moving the mouse actually has an affect or not). I dont get an error message or anything, its just really really slow, I was able to click on a menu button and it did bring up what it was supposed to, but with the same lagging. (It sounds kinda like gUEST''s problem) Ive been looking through your suggestions and trying to fix it. I tried the ATI download, didnt have an affect, re-installed the entire program, no affect, ect, ect...Anyways, I just saw this posted somewhere:
Can you see if you have this file on your system:
f:\impulse\Atom Zombie Smasher\data\atigktxx.dll

1. If it's there: delete it and try running the game.
2. If it's not there: download http://www.blendogames.com/dev/kn-atigktxx-10.4.zip and extact it into the folder, and try running the game again.
I remembered that this was the same file for the ATI fix download and decided to try deleting it. Well, that worked, it runs exactly as it's supposed to now. I thought I should tell you in case this is relevant at all.

Same Issue - frame rate. I purchased off the 1.24 demo no issues. The new demo had the stutter. The full game has the stuttuer. I removed the ATI file like previous poster mentioned, problem solved.

Good call. This works w/ xbox 360 wireless controllers too. I turned the controller on and... shazzam! The mouse works OK.

Yay for bugs!

Windows Vista

GeForce 9800 GTX

Desktop.

Ive noticed that the faster I move the mouse, the longer the pauses are. If i move the mouse slowly and gradually, there is no slowdown. It feels like a direct correlation between mouse speed and slowdown.

@some guy: you're correct. There's a problem with the input code where mouse movement is somehow overloading the game.

Can you please try restarting your computer and see if there's any difference?
If that doesn't work, can you try deleting (or renaming) the file ATIGTKXX.dll located in Atom Zombie Smasher/data ?

1. Can you please check whether you have the latest version of your video drivers installed?
ATI: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
2. If you have an ATI card - can you try installing the AZS ATI hotfix and see if it makes a difference? http://www.blendogames.com/files/atomzo ... hotfix.exe
3. Can you try manually installing the v1.62 patch and see if it makes a difference? http://blendogames.com/files/atomzombiepatch_v1_62.exe
