I got this framerate problems on 2 differents occasions:

1- When I first purchased, installed then started AZS from Steam.
Shutting down, then restarting my Computer solved the problem. Everything was fine and smooth.

2- Each time I play a game (Test Drive Unlimited 2) using my XBox 360 PC controller, then later (without rebooting my computer) start an AZS game.
AZS start with the framerate problem. But to solve this, I just need to turn on my Xbox controller, making sure AZS is working normally, then I can turn off (removing battries) the controller and I can play AZS without problems.
I'm no expert, but it seems that as soon as I use my Xbox controller, it somehow 'corrupt' my Computer and/or Steam, and this corruption make AZS unplayable, unless I start the controller.
I'll try playing a few other games using the Xbox controller, to see if I get the same result than playing TDU2 then AZS, but I doubt the result will be different.

*Update*

I made a few tests about the Framerate slowdown / mouse stutter caused by the Xbox 360 PC controller...

Test 1 =
- Reboot PC.
- Start Steam.
- Play AZS.
Result: Everything is fine.

Test 2 =
- Reboot PC.
- Start Steam.
- Play Dogfighter using Xbox controller.
- Stop playing Dogfighter.
- Start playing AZS.
Result: Bad Framerate.
Solution: Start Xbox controller.

Test 3 =
- Reboot PC.
- Turning on Xbox controller.
- Starting Steam.
- Turning off Xbox controller (removing then putting back batteries).
- Start playing AZS.
Result: Bad Framerate.
Solution: Start Xbox controller.

Test 4 =
- Reboot PC.
- Turning on Xbox controller.
- Turning off Xbox controller.
- Starting Steam.
- Start playing AZS.
Result: Bad Framerate.
Solution: Start Xbox controller.

So, it seems that as soon as you're using the Xbox controller, it is necessary to turn it on for AZS to make the game playable.
And somehow when starting AZS, it needs to detect an active controller to solve it's bad framerate. After that, AZS is happy and you can turn off the Xbox controller, if you wish. The framerate will still be good.

Weird bug...

I think I have a fix for the framerate & graphics bug - can people please give it a try:

1. Download http://blendogames.com/dev/sfml17lib.zip
2. Copy & replace the files into your "atom zombie smasher/data" folder.
3. If running on Steam: log out/log in to Steam.
4. Try running the game.

Hi, Brendon, this is Jeff S., we spoke in e-mail. Congratulations on the patch, it seems to work for me as well! I notice that the mouse movement is not quite as smooth in the game as it is in Win7, but it is decently smooth and very good overall! The screen no longer freezes during large mouse movements. I still notice a CPU hit when I move the mouse, but it's much less than before (20% before, 4% now). A big improvement over how it was even yesterday! Brendon, you're a shoe-in for the Cervidian Medal Of Honour for this! In fact, I'll vote for you twice.

The most recently posted fix works great. Very nice work. I'm fairly certain everyone appreciates the extra effort.

@Guest - can you give me more details on what system you are running on? The OS, video card, and where you got the game from.

Also, can you describe what you are seeing? Is the game running, but the framerate slows down when you move the mouse?

I am using the steam demo on a Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. My processor is a Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 with a ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card.

My only framerate problem comes with Snipers. Whenever I place them, my FPS drops dramatically and I can't even place an aim spot. Although I do have a bad gaming computer I have no problems with the rest of the game. This problem is piratically gamebreaking as whenever I have snipers in my current squad it takes me ages to place an aim spot, and even then, they don't allow me to place my aim spot.

Any ideas/

@Orch - I have a fix for that. The next patch will have a fix for the sniper framerate performance.

Hey Brendon,

I'm having the fram rate sruffer issue, tried the most recent patch and nada.

Running Windows 7 64 bit I do belive

4 GB RAM

And Intell HD intergrated graphics, I know intergrated sucks anyway but I have no problem with any other game from ones like Plants vs Zombies and Defcon up to Dawn of War II.

@CozzyCO -

Are you running the Steam version? Do you know what version number you are running? The version number can be located on the lower-left area of the main menu.

Can you please try this fix:
1. Go to your Atom Zombie Smasher folder. By default, the folder is located at:
C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\atomzombiesmasher\data
2. Delete (or rename) the file named ATIGKTXX.dll
3. Try running the game again.
