Framerate slowdown / mouse stutter

Ok well I've tried deleting the ATI file, unplugging the mouse, downloading the ati fix, restarting the computer, reinstalling the demo, and restarting steam but the demo still is lagging with one frame per second for me. I hope you can find a fix soon Brendon. You are one of the most supportive developers out there.

@Brendon, I've tried both exe mousefix files, neither of them worked. Also tried running them as administrator, didn't work then either though.

I made a test application to help diagnose the problem - can someone please give it a try:

1. Download http://blendogames.com/dev/windowtest02.zip
2. Unpack it anywhere on your computer.
3. Run windowtest.exe

A framerate counter & "mouse event" counter will appear - let me know what values they display. Thanks.

The test doesn't display for me. It comes up as "windowtest02" in my processes, but nothing else appears.

I forgot to include the ATI card fix. Try this one: http://blendogames.com/dev/windowtest03.zip

The FPS stays at 64-67. The mouse events are at 1 when not moving my mouse at all, and about 66 when moving it rapidly.

Can you now try the same thing for this one? http://blendogames.com/dev/windowtest04.zip

Approx 5,000 FPS, and 500 mouse events.

Good lord this is frustrating. Brendon, why don't you make all versions of the game download the fix as a mandatory thing. That way you won't have people complaining about the problem and you can separate the people who have a problem that can be fixed with the ones that has no fix.

@Guest - The problem is that there doesn't seem to be one solution for everyone.

For some, restarting the computer fixes it, for some, deleting atigktxx.dll fixes it, for some, deleting openal32.dll fixes it, and for some, plugging in a joystick fixes it. I certainly wish there was just one thing that fixed everything!

Which fix are you referring to?

@Brendon, you are working on a solution right? Or should I ask for a refund? I'd hate to because the game looks fun, plus I love zombies ;_;

@rizuhbull - At the moment I'm looking into how mice are handled in the game. My guess at the moment is some newer/gaming mice are overloading my input system with too much data; so when the mouse is moved around, the game is slowing down. I'm going to buy one and try it for myself.

Do you have a spare mouse you can try out, and see if it makes a difference?

@Brendon, I know I have a couple around here somewhere, but couldn't find them last I looked. I'll continue looking but I'm not counting on it.

Alright, found my two hidden mice. Neither of them worked.

Used both these. The game was still unplayable when moving the mouse.

After going through the forum messages, here's how everything looks right now:
http://blendogames.com/atomzombiesmasher/support.htm

I typically use an Nvidia card on my development computer; I'm going to give my ATI card a try and see if I can reproduce the problem on my system.

@rizuhbull - Thank you for testing it, it looks like the mice is not the problem.

I had the mouse stuttering issue with the demo. I first tried deleting the ATIGTKXX.dll file, but then the game wouldn't launch at all (though the process would start). After using Steam to verify the game (which reinstalled the dll), I simply logged off and back onto my windows account and that fixed the stuttering.
Win 7 pro x64, ATI Radeon HD 4800 series

Also, regarding the mouse input handling: I'm using a logitech g9x @4800 dpi and I don't see any slow down.

@metastable - it seems that in your case, restarting the computer did the trick.

Do you (and anyone else reading this thread) have a minute to help me diagnose the problem? I have a small test app.

1. Download http://blendogames.com/dev/windowtest04.zip
2. Unpack it anywhere on your computer.
3. Run windowtest.exe

A framerate counter & "mouse event" counter will appear - let me know what values they display when you move the mouse around. Thanks!

Ok, there you go:

- FPS: around 5000
- Mouse Events: 490 (while moving the mouse in circles)

I hope this helps
